Folding corkscrew with a bow shaped handle

Type

Pocket corkscrew

Mark

Taunus Brunnen Grosskarben

Description

Folding corkscrews with a bow shaped handle first appeared in England in the eighteenth century. Because of their compact size, folding corkscrews can be easily carried on one's person and, therefore, are also classified as pocket corkscrews. Some call them harps, which have been produced in hundreds of sizes.

Note : This very heavy bottle shaped jug is stamp marked as follows on the side: "Taunus Brunnen By Appointment" in English in a circle mark with what appears to be a crown in the center. Below this mark is imprinted: "J. Friedrich Grosskarben B/ Frankfurt M". Based on information provided by a collector, I believe it is a gin bottle manufactured in the late 1800's to early 1900's.
